New Delhi: Sahara Group Chairman Subrata Roy on Tuesday heaped praise on rising shuttler Pusarla Venkata Sindhu for winning the Bronze Medal at the recent World Championship- m2013 and bagging the prestigious Arjuna Award.
Confident after winning a bronze medal at the World Championship, fast rising shuttler PV Sindhu says she was ready to take on her celebrated compatriot Saina Nehwal at the inaugural Indian Badminton League. "I'm thrilled to win the medal, and my immediate target is to excel in the next two weeks at the Indian Badminton League. I am ready to play against Saina and will try to give my best performance. Hope it will be a good show," Sindhu said.
India's best medal hopes - Saina Nehwal and Malaysian GP gold medallist P V Sindhu - would open their campaign with a bye and have received a decent draw in the women's singles event. According to the tournament rules, any player reaching the semi-final is assured of a bronze medal.
World No. 3 and third seed Saina Nehwal has been drawn in the same half as world No. 1 Li Xuerui of China and the two could face in the women's singles semifinal of the BWF World Championships to be held in Guangzhou, China, from August 5-11. This, should she manages to beat eighth seed Minatsu Mitani of Japan in the quarterfinals.
